Monday Morning QB, Week 8: Burrow's 462 Yards and a Thin Quarterback Pool

Dynasty takeaways from Week 8 quarterback play: Joe Burrow's 462 yards, Drake Maye's streak, Arizona's switch to Minshew and who struggled.

By Derek Sallis · November 2, 2026

One quarterback threw for more yards than anyone has this season. Three more scored 25 or higher, and five finished under 10. Below is how the passers on our Week 9 board did in Week 8.

Tennessee and Pittsburgh have byes in Week 9, so Cam Ward and Aaron Rodgers are not on this board.

Burrow, and the climb behind it

Burrow went 38 of 48 for 462 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-36 overtime win over Tennessee, then ran in the game-winner. His scores this season, in order, are 14, 16, 23, 24, 25, 29 and 39.5. A quarterback who has beaten his own last game six times running is not having a lucky week. Our Week 9 projection is 28.1 against Atlanta, the best on the board.

Cousins and Allen found the end zone

Cousins ran in from one yard out in Las Vegas's 38-33 win over the Jets. Allen scored Buffalo's first touchdown the same way and landed within a point of our projection. That was an ordinary week for him, since he averages 26.8 a game.

Mahomes beat his projection by 14

Mahomes beat our number by a wide margin in a 28-24 loss at Denver. We were low because his two games before it came to 10.5 and 6.0. He now averages 17.9, and our Week 9 projection against the Jets is 15.1.

Maye has scored 22 or more five straight times

New England's Maye fell 5.8 short of projection in a 24-19 win at Miami. Since a 3.8 in Week 3 he has gone 26.2, 39.5, 23.8, 27.4 and 22.5. His Week 9 projection is 24.0 against Green Bay, third on the board, and includes 22 rushing yards.

Arizona changed quarterbacks mid-game

Jacoby Brissett scored 6.9 the week before and went to the bench late in the third quarter at Dallas. Gardner Minshew came in and finished the comeback in overtime, 33-30, for 19.5 points. Our Week 9 board starts Minshew at 14.7 and puts Brissett at zero. In superflex leagues, he is worth an add.

The five who scored under 10

Michael Penix Jr. finished at negative 1.9 in Atlanta's 16-0 loss at Tampa Bay. Daniel Jones scored 6.5, Justin Herbert 7.8, Matthew Stafford 8.3 and Jared Goff 9.0.

Jayden Daniels belongs near them. He scored 15.0 against a 29.6 projection in a 27-10 win over Philadelphia, and we have no clean reason for the gap.

Deshaun Watson shows what a projection can miss. He threw for 324 yards at Pittsburgh and scored 11.2, because Cleveland scored six points and none of his yards reached the end zone. Our Week 9 line gives him 278 yards and 0.3 touchdowns against New Orleans, so the model expects yards without scores again.

The pool is getting thinner

Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts and Jaxson Dart are all on injured reserve. J.J. McCarthy projects at 16.0 for the Giants against Philadelphia, and rookie Joe Fagnano may start for Baltimore on Thursday.

Burrow tops the Week 9 board, with Trevor Lawrence and Maye behind him. If you are shopping for a quarterback, price him in the Dynasty Trade Calculator first.
