Week 5 Injury Report: Sunday Status

Lamar Jackson hasn't practiced all week, Jayden Daniels has been cleared, and the Eagles are down their backup back, their top receiver and two linemen.

Teams file their final designations Friday afternoon. This is where every open question stood after Thursday's practices, and anything still unresolved moves to The NFL Injury Wire on Sunday.

Lamar Jackson is a long shot

Jackson didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday with his ankle sprain, and Ravens coach Jesse Minter hasn't ruled him out. Minter says he doesn't need to practice to play, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls him unlikely and describes a "rarer type of ankle sprain" that could cost him more than one game. Baltimore is preparing two game plans and is a 3-point underdog at Atlanta on Sunday night.

Tyler Huntley starts if Jackson sits, with rookie Joe Fagnano as the backup. Zay Flowers has a foot injury and was limited both days, so a Huntley start would put a thin receiver room behind a backup. The injury isn't considered long-term or surgical, which keeps Lamar Jackson a hold.

Cincinnati may play without both stars

Ja'Marr Chase returned to limited practice Thursday but is still in the concussion protocol, and Tee Higgins is day to day with an adductor injury. If both sit against Miami, Dohnte Meyers moves into the top receiver role and Mitchell Tinsley picks up snaps. Cincinnati has its bye next week.

Philadelphia is thin everywhere

Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith both sat out Thursday with hamstring injuries, and one outlet already lists Barkley as Doubtful for London. Tank Bigsby is on injured reserve, so Will Shipley leads the backfield if Barkley sits. Tight end Dallas Goedert was limited with his knee.

The line is shifting too. The Eagles lost tackle Lane Johnson to retirement and traded center Cam Jurgens to Baltimore this week. Kickoff in London is 9:30 AM ET.

Daniels is back, and Washington's backup plan ends

Jayden Daniels has been cleared after two missed games with his elbow, and Marcus Mariota is out with a knee injury. That ends the case for Athan Kaliakmanis, who looked like Washington's starter on Tuesday and is now a backup again.

Jefferson, Olave and a few more

Justin Jefferson was limited for a second day and says he plans to play against New Orleans. Chris Olave is new on the Saints' report with a foot issue, so check his Friday status before locking either side of that game.

Brock Bowers moved up to a full practice. Malik Nabers improved from no practice to limited. Breece Hall's quad is still week-to-week, and Baker Mayfield is out three to six weeks. San Francisco's Nick Bosa is out again, and Mike Evans was limited.

FAQ

When do final designations come out?
Friday afternoon, after the last practice of the week. A player who is limited or missing on Friday rarely turns into a full go on Sunday, but a few do.
Why does the Eagles' line matter for fantasy?
Philadelphia lost a starting tackle and traded its center in the same week, and the offense was already missing its lead back and top receiver. Hurts will throw behind a line that's been rebuilt on the fly.
What happens if Lamar Jackson is a Sunday-night scratch?
Huntley starts, and Ravens skill players lose value across the board. Inactives post about 90 minutes before kickoff, so have a fallback plan in place before then.
