Monday Morning QB: Week 1's Best Arms, Checked Against the Board

The best QB performances of Week 1, checked against what NextDyne's board projected coming in — and what it means for dynasty value.

By Derek Sallis · September 14, 2026

Our Week 1 board ranked 30 quarterbacks before a snap was played. Five of them are worth a second look now that the games are final — and they happen to be the five highest-scoring quarterbacks of the week. The takeaway isn't the leaderboard. It's how far some of them landed from where the model had them.

Caleb Williams: 11th projected, 1st delivered

Williams went into Sunday ranked 11th among quarterbacks for the week, projected for 20.5 points. He finished as the best fantasy quarterback in football at 37.3 — 21-of-29 for 269 yards and 2 passing scores, plus 10 carries for 65 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. That's not 300 passing yards. It's a dual-threat explosion that nearly doubled the weekly projection.

That's not a fluke read on our board. Caleb Williams carries an 8,197 Dynasty Value Score already, built on a genuine QB16-to-QB5 jump last season. Sunday looked like the next step in that climb, not an outlier game.

Josh Allen: the model had him right where he landed

Allen was projected 5th at 21.7 points. He scored 35.7 — 20-of-29 for 334 yards, 2 passing touchdowns, no picks, and 2 rushing scores of his own. A big number, but not a surprise given where the week's board already had him. Josh Allensits at 9,633 DVS, the highest we've got at the position, and Sunday was simply Josh Allen doing what a 9,633-DVS quarterback does. The story here isn't discovery. It's confirmation.

Bryce Young: 24th projected, 3rd delivered

This is the week's real outlier. Young opened 24th among quarterbacks, projected for 16.2 points (ceiling 20.4). He went 23-of-37 for 361 yards, 3 passing touchdowns, and a rushing score — 31.4 points, nearly double the projection. Carolina threw 38 times; he was the passing game.

Bryce Youngstill sits at a modest 3,987 DVS and a hold stance; one game against a Chicago defense that also gave up 37.3 to Williams shouldn't move that on its own. He's been stuck around QB19–QB20 the last two seasons after a QB23 rookie year. Week 1 is the first real data point in a while suggesting that stall might be stale. It still needs a second week.

Jaxson Dart: the second-year starter already living up to the hype

Dart opened Week 1 ranked 4th among all quarterbacks — a second-year starter, ahead of Josh Allen on the weekly board. He delivered 26.6 points on a clean 23-of-29, 230 yards, 3 touchdowns, zero interceptions, plus 11 carries for 54 yards. He finished 4th on the week, right where the model put him.

Jaxson Dartalready carries a 6,669 DVS and a buy stance off a QB13 rookie season in 2025. Week 1 didn't create this story. It kept the story going.

Trevor Lawrence: projected 23rd, finished 5th

Lawrence was projected 23rd, at 16.8 points. He went 18-of-23 for 245 yards and 4 touchdowns — 26.1 points, and the same pattern that turned his 2025 season from QB27 to QB4. Trevor Lawrence sits at 6,985 DVS with a buy stance for exactly this reason: the weekly board keeps underrating him, and he keeps answering it on the field.

What actually matters here

Two different stories are happening under one QB list. Allen and Dart did what the board already expected — that's a market working correctly, not a takeaway. Williams, Young, and Lawrence all blew past modest pre-week numbers, and two of those three (Williams, Lawrence) already carry board scores that back the outperformance as a trend, not a one-week spike. Young is the one still waiting on a second data point.

FAQ

Does a big Week 1 performance change a quarterback's Dynasty Value Score?
Rarely on its own. DVS is built on a full season plus a year-ahead projection — one game moves it only when it confirms a question the board already had open, like Bryce Young's stalled breakout.
Why did some quarterbacks with lower Week 1 projections score more than the top-ranked ones?
Weekly projections weigh matchup, pace, and health going into one game. They're a different question than dynasty value, which looks at a full season of role and production. A quarterback can be underrated for one Sunday and correctly rated for the year.
Where can I see this week's quarterback rankings before they play?
The live start/sit board updates through the week as injury designations change, and every player's page shows their current Dynasty Value Score and 2026 projection.
