Is Kyler Murray Still Startable After His Concussion?
Kyler Murray's Vikings debut lasted 18 pass yards before a concussion ended his day. He missed Week 2, started Week 3, and the dynasty case still sits on health.

Minnesota's plan for Kyler Murray lasted 18 pass yards. He left Week 1 with a concussion before the offense ever got going, missed Week 2 entirely, and started Week 3 at Tampa Bay. Here's what actually changes, and what doesn't.
The case that got him here
Murray beat out J.J. McCarthy for Minnesota's starting job this summer — a real, earned competition, not a handoff. He's throwing to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison now, a receiver room he never had in Arizona, and his career touchdown numbers never depended on that supporting cast to begin with: four seasons over 20 passing touchdowns, plus real rushing production every healthy year he's played. None of that disappeared over one shortened Sunday.
What actually happened
Week 1 was 3-of-5 for 18 yards, an interception, and nine rush yards. Our weekly board treated it as a bust because he didn't finish — Engine had him around 250 passing yards against Green Bay. That is a missed game, not a read on his arm. ESPN had him Questionable with a concussion for Week 2. He did not play. Carson Wentz started.
He was back as the starter Sunday in Tampa Bay. Minnesota won 23–16. Murray went 15-of-29 for 168 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, plus 17 rush yards. Engine's last weekly pass before kickoff was 174.2 yards and 1.0 passing touchdown. That is a normal start after a protocol week, not a new chapter. Monday's depth chart still lists him QB1, with Wentz second and McCarthy third.
A concussion is a real thing to track. A cleared protocol, a start, and a 168-yard line that sat next to the weekly projection is about as clean an update as this kind of injury produces.
Where the caution is real
Murray sits at 2,285 on our board right now — roster-fringe territory for a player throwing to Jefferson. That number isn't about talent. It's the pattern: 8 games and an Out week in 2023, 5 games in 2025, and a 2026 that already has a Week 1 exit and a full miss. The season model still carries 16.5 projected games from the September 5 baseline. That haircut was in the number before this concussion. Health, not arm talent, is the swing factor.
We covered the job change when Minnesota named him starter in August — what the Vikings QB1 job meant for his dynasty value. The weapons argument has not moved. The availability argument just got another data point.
What I'd actually do
Hold, not sell and not chase. The weapons and the earned job are real reasons for optimism once he's on the field. Week 3 did not raise the price, and the injury history is why 2,285 has not caught up to that optimism yet — and won't until he strings together a full, healthy stretch. This is a wait-and-watch more than a buy-low or a bust call. The swings in his profile are already priced in.

FAQ
- Is Kyler Murray still startable after his concussion?
- Yes if you rostered him as a dual-threat starter with injury variance already in the price. He cleared protocol, missed Week 2, and started Week 3 at Tampa Bay (168 passing yards, one touchdown). That is a medical green light, not a new talent read. His Dynasty Value Score is still 2,285 because of missed games, not because Minnesota's weapons disappeared.
- Does clearing the concussion protocol mean a player is fully back to normal?
- It means the medical clearance process found no lingering symptoms as of testing. It is a good sign, not a guarantee. Watch practice reports and in-game usage in the week after a return — he started Week 3, so the next check is Week 4 participation, not whether he was allowed to take a snap.
- Why is Kyler Murray's Dynasty Value Score so low despite his talent and weapons?
- The score prices durability risk directly. Eight games and an Out week in 2023, five games in 2025, a Week 1 exit, and a Week 2 miss in 2026 pull the number down regardless of how good a healthy version is. Live board: 2,285, 26th among quarterbacks.
- Should I bench Kyler Murray after one bad week caused by injury?
- Not off the Week 1 box. Three completions and 18 yards is a concussion-shortened game, not a performance sample. He started Week 3. For the next lineup, check practice participation — not the 18-yard line.
