Jalen Hurts Is Out for Week 6. Here's Who Starts and Who to Add.
Tanner McKee starts for the Eagles, Barkley and Smith are hurt, and managers need a quarterback.
By Tyler Brandt, News Desk · October 15, 2026
Quick answer: The Eagles ruled Jalen Hurts out for Sunday's game against Carolina with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Tanner McKee starts. Ian Rapoport reports McKee stays the starter until Hurts's medical situation is resolved, and that Hurts will likely miss more than this week. If you own Hurts, Aaron Rodgers and Jacoby Brissett are the best adds. For dynasty, hold Hurts and wait for a timeline.
What happened
Hurts was cleated in the calf during the Week 4 loss to the Rams. He asked for treatment on Oct. 8, and the Eagles added him to the injury report that Friday. After the team flew to London, an ultrasound found a superficial blood clot. Doctors told the Eagles he could safely play, and he did, going 21 of 40 for 220 yards and a touchdown in a loss to Jacksonville on a 57-yard field goal as time expired.
A follow-up ultrasound Wednesday showed movement in the clot. The Eagles pulled him Thursday. They haven't said how long he'll be out. They said they are working out the right course of treatment and have stayed in contact with the league.
Who replaces him
McKee is 26, 6'6", and has two career starts. He has 597 passing yards, a 61.4% completion rate and five touchdowns against one interception. He's a pocket passer with little of Hurts's running ability, and Hurts has 107 rushing yards and a touchdown this season. McKee lost the backup job to Andy Dalton this summer, got it back after Dalton's bad Week 3, and now has the team's first-string reps. Philadelphia released Dalton last week and could bring him back. Rookie Cole Payton is the only other healthy quarterback.
The Eagles are 2-3 and have lost three straight. Carolina is 2-2 and coming off a bye.
The weapons are thin too
Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith both missed Wednesday's and Thursday's practices with hamstring injuries. Barkley and Smith are the Eagles' two best skill players, and neither is sure to play. A backup quarterback with a short list of healthy targets is a poor setup. Don't move Eagles pass catchers up your rankings because of a quarterback change. Smith is the only one who belongs in lineups if he plays.
Who to add
Rodgers has thrown three touchdown passes in each of his last three games and scored 22 or more half-PPR points in all three. NextDyne projects him for 17.6 points at Tampa Bay, and he's still on waivers in most leagues.
Brissett is QB14 and scored 24.8 points last week. We project him for 18.2 at the Rams. About half of leagues roster him, so check yours.
McKee only helps in Superflex and 2QB leagues, and even there he's a one-week plug. He won't give you Hurts's ceiling. The Week 6 line after Hurts's volume moves over is 23.6 attempts, 156 passing yards, and about 11.6 half-PPR points.
Dynasty impact
Nothing about Hurts's value should move on one missed game. He scores 7,655 on our board, with a range of 6,937 to 8,340. He was already a watch before this: he dropped from QB8 to QB17 through five games, after a reboot offseason that cost him A.J. Brown and a fourth offensive coordinator in six years.
The real unknown is the length of the absence, and nobody outside the Eagles can answer it yet. If your league partner panics, that's a chance to buy. If the Eagles announce a long absence, revisit it then. McKee has a 0 DVS and isn't a dynasty add.
Rodgers is a one-season rental. At 42, he's a win-now piece with no long-term price attached. Brissett is 33, and the same applies.
