Is Dak Prescott a Dynasty Buy-Low at 33?

Dak Prescott's passing yards climbed from 175 to 316 while his scoring fell, and he ranks QB19 on our dynasty board next to C.J. Stroud. Here is why the dip looks like a buying chance for contenders.

Updated October 10, 2026, with official stats through Week 4 and Thursday night's game.

Dak Prescott's passing yards rose from 175 in Week 1 to 316 on Thursday, and his fantasy scoring has fallen every week since his big Week 2. He's priced as a fringe starter, and that mismatch is why I'd buy him now if you're contending.

What moved his score

Dak Prescott started the year at 5,939 on our dynasty board. He dropped to 5,841 after Week 1 and climbed back to 5,887 through Week 4, still 52 points under his preseason mark. That puts him 19th among quarterbacks.

He sits next to C.J. Stroud at 5,879, with Jordan Love and Joe Burrow above him and Matthew Stafford well below at 4,892. That's a high-end QB2 or low-end QB1 price for a player who finished sixth last year.

Five games, two trends

His attempts went from 34 and 31 to 40, 45 and 42, and his yards followed. Touchdowns went the other way, four in Week 2 and one a game since, and Thursday brought his first two interceptions since Week 1. Through four games he had completed 70.0% of his throws for 1,065 yards, eight touchdowns and one interception, which made him QB7 behind Josh Allen, Brock Purdy, Bryce Young, Jared Goff, Tyler Shough and Patrick Mahomes.

He's averaged 20.3 points through four games and 18.8 through five, close to the 18.5 he scored last year. That's a quarterback gaining yards and losing touchdowns, and touchdowns are the less stable half.

Thursday

Dallas lost 24-16 to an 0-4 Tampa Bay team, and the damage came mostly from the targets. CeeDee Lamb caught two of five for 9 yards, while George Pickens saw 13 and scored 23.5. Houston (+18%) and Washington (+9%) allow more passing yards than average, so part of Dak's earlier yardage came against soft defenses, while Baltimore (-2%) and the Giants (-10%) allow fewer.

Full-season Dak and short-season Dak

This is the whole profile. In every season he has played 15 or more games, he has finished QB2, QB3, QB6, QB6, QB7, QB10 or QB11, with four seasons over 4,000 yards in 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2025. He threw a league-high 36 touchdowns in 2023.

The bad finishes are the short years: five games in 2020, 12 in 2022 and eight in 2024, when our injury table lists a hamstring injury with two Out weeks. The board prices that history as a small durability haircut, and that's most of the discount.

The process

Next Gen Stats show a passer holding his form. His completion rate over expected was +1.9 in 2024, +4.4 on 600 attempts in 2025, and +3.0 this season, 12th of 33 quarterbacks. His 2.70 seconds to throw is the fastest of the three years. That covers 192 attempts through five games, a solid sample this early in the season.

Pro Football Reference's pressure numbers say 2024 was the messy year: 71.3% on target with a 25.6% pressure rate over half a season. In 2025 he was back to 74.8% and 21.6%, with 2.4 seconds in the pocket.

The risk

Age is the main discount, and it runs on a calendar. A quarterback at 33 has a few more seasons before the market stops paying, so this buy is for a window, not a decade. Dallas is 2-3 after Thursday, and the receiver chart still lists Lamb, Pickens and Ryan Flournoy with Jake Ferguson at tight end.

What I'd do:buy for a contending team, and pass if you're rebuilding. I'd change my mind if his yards fall under 250 for two straight games or the interceptions keep coming.

FAQ

Is Dak Prescott still a QB1 at 33?
Through four games he ranked seventh, and last season he finished sixth. Across the seasons he has played at least 15 games, he has never finished lower than 11th.
Why is Dak Prescott's dynasty value lower than Drake Maye's?
Age and durability. Maye is 24 and Prescott is 33, and the score builds in a steep curve, so a quarterback with similar production scores thousands of points lower. That gap is the buying chance for a team that wants wins now.
Does one bad Thursday change the buy case?
Not by itself. Two interceptions in a loss to a winless team is a single game, and his 316 yards were the second-most of his five games.
