Terry McLaurin Is Out for 2026. Hold or Drop in Dynasty?
Dynasty managers: Terry McLaurin tore his patellar tendon and is out for 2026. What it means for his value, Washington’s receivers and your roster.
By Tyler Brandt · October 20, 2026
Quick answer: Drop him unless you have a free IR slot. A torn patellar tendon at 31 is a long recovery, and the best case is a Week 1 return next fall at less than full strength. He was already on the way down before the knee gave out.
What happened
Terry McLaurin went down late in the first quarter of Monday night's 23-17 loss at San Francisco. His left knee buckled as he planted to cut outside. He couldn't walk off, and a cart took him away with the leg in an air cast. He had already caught his only pass of the night, a 27-yarder.
Coach Dan Quinn confirmed Tuesday that he tore the patellar tendon in that knee. He will have surgery and miss the rest of the season. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport had reported the team feared exactly that. The Week 7 injury report lists him Out with a knee injury.
Washington is 1-4-1 and has its bye this week. McLaurin finishes the year with 15 catches for 230 yards and a touchdown in five games. He missed Week 4 with a hamstring.
Why drop
Recovery is the first problem. One doctor quoted by Heavy called a Week 1 return next year a realistic target, but said most players take a big production hit in their first year back. That is the optimistic version. He was born September 15, 1995, so he turns 32 next September.
Durability is the second. He missed seven games last year, listed Out with a quad in Weeks 4 through 7 and 9 through 11, and the hamstring cost him Week 4 this season. He played all 17 games in each season from 2021 through 2024.
The third is the price. In half-PPR he finished WR6 in 2024 and WR53 in 2025, and he was WR56 through five games this year. The 3,833 on his profile was printed Tuesday morning, before the knee showed up on the injury report. That score does not include the tear. Nobody will pay for a 31-year-old receiver coming off a knee tendon repair.
Contract is the only thing on his side. He signed a three-year, $96 million extension before the 2025 season, and Washington has him for two more years. A bad team with a lot of changes ahead can still reshape the roster around him.
What to do with your roster
Contending:Cut him and add a receiver who plays Week 8. The Commanders are on bye, so you won't lose a week by acting now.
Rebuilding, with an open IR slot:Stash him if the slot sits empty anyway. Check back after the offseason, once he's cleared and you know his role.
Rebuilding, no IR slot: Drop him. A roster spot is worth more than a long shot on a 31-year-old.

Who gains in Washington
Stefon Diggs is the next receiver. He led the team with nine targets in his Week 1 debut, missed Week 5 with a hamstring, and caught six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown Monday. He is not on this week's injury report. His dynasty score has not moved up for this injury, so don't pay a new price for him off the news.
Antonio Williams is the charted third receiver. He has 18 catches for 205 yards and a touchdown in six games, and he caught three passes for 50 yards Monday. Treylon Burks had six targets in that game. Luke McCaffrey is sixth on the chart and has one target this season. Williams is the waiver name.
Jayden Daniels loses a receiver who has been with him since his rookie year. He called McLaurin a brother after the game. Offensive coordinator David Blough has less to work with now.
