Is Rashee Rice's Dynasty Price Still a Buy Now That the Suspension Risk Is Gone?

The short answer

Buy, with your eyes open about what kind of risk you're actually taking on now. Rashee Ricehas spent two years priced around off-field uncertainty, and as of this month the biggest piece of that — another suspension — looks off the table. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said in mid-August he would not expect further discipline. What's left is a football question: whether a May arthroscopic cleanup on his right knee is back to full speed before Week 1. That is easier to buy than a courtroom.

The offseason nobody at Arrowhead wants to relive

Rice was in a high-speed crash in Dallas in March 2024 that injured multiple people. He pleaded guilty to two felony charges, drew five years of probation and 30 days in jail, and the NFL suspended him six games to open 2025. This May he tested positive for THC, which triggered the jail sentence immediately. He served 30 days, got out mid-June, and missed OTAs and mandatory minicamp. A separate civil suit from an ex-girlfriend alleging domestic violence was reviewed by the league; in April the NFL said he had not violated the personal conduct policy and issued no discipline.

None of that is pleasant, and it is not noise. It is also mostly in the rearview if Rapoport is right. Rice already served the six-game ban and the jail time. If that holds, he opens 2026 available for a full season for the first time since his rookie year.

The real swing factor now is the knee, not the courtroom

The May procedure was a cleanup — loose debris, no new structural damage — on the same right knee he wrecked in 2024 (LCL, hamstring tendon, posterolateral corner). Rehab ran through a month in jail. Chiefs beat writer Nate Taylor said in mid-August that some reps still look like Rice and some still look like he is laboring changing directions in and out of breaks. He had joined 11-on-11 earlier that month. That is a normal return from a compressed rehab. It is also the variable that decides whether Xavier Worthy or someone else eats early targets. What the tape says when he's actually on the field

As a rookie he caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns on 102 targets in 16 games and finished WR27 in half-PPR. In the eight games after the 2025 suspension he went 53-571-5 on 78 targets (plus 20 rushing yards and a rushing score) and scored about 5% above expected half-PPR from opportunity — 121.6 actual vs 115.8 expected. Next Gen Stats had him at +0.62 yards after catch over expected on those 78 targets. Average depth of target was 4.3 yards. He is a volume and YAC receiver, not a deep threat. The problem across three seasons has been staying out there long enough to get the volume: 28 games of a possible 51. 2025 was not only the suspension. He also sat Week 16 with a concussion.

2026 is the last year of his rookie deal. Kansas City can extend him before he hits free agency in 2027. A healthy, available season is the tape that sets that number.

What the model says

Dynasty Value Score has Rice at 5,218 — 26th among receivers. The 2026 Engine projection has him at 14.1 half-PPR PPG, 7th at the position, on a 15.5-game slate. That gap is the trade. Two discounts are still baked in: a durability chip (0.95) for two of the last three seasons under 15 games, and a separate off-field availability flag (0.93). Both are legitimate. Neither is permanent if he plays a full, clean 2026. The Engine is already assuming he is available, not suspended. It is not assuming 17 healthy games.

The honest case against buying in

Three seasons in, he has never played more than 16 games in a year, and the missed time is not one cause. It is a 2024 knee, a 2025 suspension, and a concussion on the way out of that eight-game sample. The change-of-direction reports from camp are current, not historical. If you are already thin at receiver, waiting for a clean August practice or an early-season target share is the safer path. The buy is the gap between WR26 on the trade board and WR7 on the projection. It is not a bet that the availability pattern magically ends.

Bottom line

The price still reflects two years of legal uncertainty that reporting now says is mostly resolved. What's left is a knee you can watch in real time. Buy before a clean September puts the score next to the projection.
